Five Villages Unite to Combat Climate Change

On World Environment Day, Samarth India launched a vital ecological campaign under its Mausam Project across five local gram panchayats: Jalla, Para, Kutubpur, Kharauj and Shankarpur. The initiative successfully combined public rallies, environmental pledges and targeted plantation drives to foster the creation of climate-resilient villages.
At the Jalla panchayat bhawan, gram pradhan Santosh Singh Thakur inaugurated the event, urging citizens to counter adverse climate patterns through large-scale afforestation. Echoing this vision in Para village, gram pradhan Santosh Kumar and development officer Omprakash Prajapati jointly emphasised the critical intersection of water conservation and green cover for securing the community’s future.
A central feature of the campaign was the empowerment of rural women. In Kutubpur, development officer Shikha Mishra conducted a specialised awareness session for women farmers, whilst employment assistant Krishna Jeet Yadav administered a collective environmental pledge. To ensure long-term sustainability, agricultural assistant Omprakash Kushwaha provided crucial training on natural farming techniques, preparing local farmers to adapt to shifting weather patterns.
The enthusiasm spilled onto the streets with vibrant public awareness rallies. Led by anganwadi worker Vimlesh Kumari, residents marched through village lanes chanting slogans such as “One Person, One Tree” to inspire community-wide action.
The intervention concluded with a tangible ecological contribution through the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign. Supported by gram pradhans, frontline health workers and women’s collectives, residents planted resilient, resourceful saplings, including neem, guava, jackfruit, lemon, and drumstick, across the region. Through this collaborative effort, Samarth India and the Kurara community have established a practical, grass-roots blueprint for rural climate adaptation.
